Shiney Row Back Garden Goes Low Maintenance with False Lawn
Mr and Mrs P visited our showroom in Washington after seeing one of our vehicles advertising it. They had a small back garden but it was struggling to grow amongst the weeds and it was getting increasingly difficult to maintain it. They decided to have us out to give them an accurate quote. They chose our kensington range in the showroom after walking on it due to its dark and thick pile. It was at a good length for them at 32mm. They placed and order and a date was set for the work to be completed.
We couldn't be happier with the new lawn. Its such a relief not to have to worry about cutting it anymore.
Mrs P - Shiney Row, Sunderland
Our installers arrived to get started on the job and as with all installation they set about preparing the area for them to install the new base and fake grass. Using turf cutters they remove the current surface of turf and soil and dispose of the waste. They then set about installing the new base. The first part of the base is crushed stone (dolomite) and is compacted down using whacker plates making a solid base to work from. By compacting the stone it prevents any sinkage once the job is complete.

By now the area is relatively flat but to get it perfect we then install a second aggregate called ballast which is gritty mixture. This is levelled off and then again compacted down. The edges are again screeded to ensure that the whole area is level. The geotextile weed membrane is then laid out covering the entire surface
The team are now ready to fit the new fake lawn. They lay the grass into the desired area and weight it down with bags of kiln dried sand to ensure it won’t move during cutting and joining. Once the cuts are made and the join has been set they distribute the kiln dried sand in a spreader to get an even spread over the entire lawn. The edges receive a double spread to help weight the lawn down. This is then mechanically brushed so the sand it pushed to the base of the lawn and the grass blades are brushed upright.
The lawn is now completed and after a little wash down with a hose this artificial grass installation in Shiney Row is left looking fantastic. No more maintenance for Mrs P.
